Just one month after confirming in an interview that quintessential Britrock act Oasis had ceased to exist, founding member Liam Gallagher has emerged from the ashes of his storied band with a new, as-yet-untitled project. A funny thing about Papa Gallagher's brand new bag: it just happens to feature all his former Oasis bandmates... except, of course, for Liam's older brother Noel, who announced, "with great relief," that he'd parted ways with Oasis back in August.

Noel's had a rough go of it over the past couple years. In 2008, he was attacked by a member of the audience while Oasis was performing at Toronto's Virgin Fest:

In the wake of 2008's well-received Dig Out Your Soul, Oasis seemed to be experiencing something of a revival. They renewed their contract with major label Sony BMG, signing a deal to release three more albums, and were named Best British Band at the 2009 NME Awards. But all that potential was compromised by the fraught relationship between Liam and Noel.

The acrimony between the Gallagher brothers is the stuff of alternative rock legend. The elder Gallagher's departure was allegedly catalyzed by a tiff that happened backstage before a show in France, during which Liam reportedly smashed one of Noel's guitars after Noel manhandled a guitar that was a gift from Liam's wife. (It's hard keeping track of the perceived inter-Gallagher insults without a scorecard.) Chances are this new Liam-helmed project will have a much better chance for non-violent success now that Noel's out of the picture.

Liam says he's working on new material with his new-old bandmates, which has us wondering just how different this new group will sound. On the one hand, Noel was the grand overlord of songwriting within Oasis... but on the other hand, Liam's latest endeavour features four-fifths of the Oasis line-up -- guitarist Gem Archer, bassist Andy Bell and drummer Chris Sharrock are on board for the project. We're also curious about what Liam and his crew will call their new band. Noasis? Liam and the Members Of Oasis Not Named Noel? Definitely Maybe Not Oasis? Perhaps a thesaurus would come in handy... "Asylum" has a nice ring to it.

What do you think Liam Gallagher should call his new group? And what effect do you think Noel's departure will have on the classic Oasis sound?
