Tony Scott, director of '80s blockbusters Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop II, died as a result of injuries suffered from jumping off a bridge into Los Angeles Harbor, according to the Los Angeles County coroner.

The British-born filmmaker's death was officially declared a suicide in a brief summary of the coroner's findings in the case released Monday.

According to the report, Scott died from "multiple blunt force injuries" and drowning. He had a "therapeutic level" of an anti-depressant and a sleep-aid in his system.

Scott was not suffering from cancer, nor did he have any serious underlying medical conditions — including cancer — at the time of his suicide, chief coroner investigator Craig Harvey told the Los Angeles Times. At the time of his death, some media quoted a source that suggested he had recently been diagnosed with brain cancer, which his family denied.

The coroner's office did not comment further on the report.

The death of 68-year-old Scott on Aug. 19 was believed a suicide from the outset. Several witnesses called 911 to report seeing someone jump from the Vincent Thomas Bridge into Los Angeles Harbor.

During its investigation, the coroner's office said that notes to friends and loved ones had been found in Scott's car nearby and at another location.
