Céline Dion and Arcade Fire will headline a star-studded group of Quebec performers in a benefit concert to support the family of Denis Blanchette, who was killed in a shooting outside the Parti Québécois victory party earlier this month.
The concert announced Tuesday morning will take place Oct. 1 at the Metropolis, the same venue where the PQ rally was held on the night of the provincial election.
Other performers on the bill include:
- Patrick Watson.
- Quebec songstress Cœur de pirate.
- Ian Kelly.
- Vincent Vallières.
Surprise guests are also slated to appear, according to a release by benefit organizer L’Équipe Spectra, the Montreal production company behind events like the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
Shot on the job
Denis Blanchette (Facebook) Blanchette, 48, was working as a lighting technician for the PQ party when he was shot outside the venue by a suspect who was trying to enter through a backstage door.
His colleague, David Courage, was also shot, but survived. A collection will be taken at the venue to offer him financial assistance as well.
The proceeds from ticket and bar sales will be allocated to a fund set up to help Blanchette's young daughter. People not attending the show can make a donation to the fund on the Metropolis' website.
Tickets are $80 for unreserved, standing room, and $175 for a reserved seat on the balcony.
Only 355 tickets for reserved seats will be sold.
All tickets go on sale at noon Tuesday (today) through Ticketmaster.
