The winner of what’s being touted as the first-ever cat video film festival is a piece starring a “French” cat describing his existential angst.

Henri 2, Paw de Deux by Seattle filmmaker Will Braden captured the Golden Kitty, through online votes, at the Cat Video Festival in Minneapolis.

A moody, reflective piece, underlined by a solo piano music track, the black-and-white video follows the cat as he describes his tedious, housebound existence.

"I am free to go, yet I remain," ponders Henri as he peers out the window. "The 15 hours a day I sleep have no effect... I'm surrounded by morons."

Festival curator Katie Hill said the event received more than 10,000 cat video nominations, which were whittled down to a selection of 70 for the screening.
