International superstar Taylor Swift will attend the Canadian Country Music Association awards in Saskatoon next month, after being named the inaugural winner of the CCMA Generation Award.

CCMA organizers created the award this year to "celebrate those who have been propelled beyond the borders of the country music genre onto an international stage."

Swift's appearance is a huge coup for the country music community, as her most recent single, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, lingers at the top of the charts.

Swift, 22, is the biggest selling country artist in Canada and internationally. 2010’s Speak Now was chosen for Rolling Stone's list of the 50 Greatest Albums of All Time by women helped catapult her onto the international stage.

Swift has won six Grammy Awards, including 2008’s album of the year Grammy for Fearless, which cemented her status as a crossover artist. She writes all her own songs and her hotly anticipated next album, Red, is scheduled for release Oct. 22.

Swift will be in Saskatoon Sept. 9 at the CCMA gala to accept her prize. She has previously won three CCMA awards for top-selling international album, but never before attended the ceremony.

Paul Brandt, George Canyon, Terri Clark, Emerson Drive and Jason Aldean are among the performers confirmed for the biggest night in Canadian country music. Dean Brody and Johnny Reid, also set to perform, lead the race for CCMA awards.

CBC will broadcast the event live beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
