L'Elisir d'Amore opens season of Met operas in Canadian cinemas

A new production of L'Elisir d'Amore, starring Anna Netrebko and Matthew Polenzani, will open the season of Metropolitan Opera productions beamed into Canadian cinemas this fall.
Cineplex announced its Met: Live in HD 2012-13 schedule Thursday, with 12 productions to be simulcast live to cinemas across Canada as they are performed in New York. Encore performances repeat the same high-definition productions.
Tony-winning Broadway director Bartlett Sher is to helm Gaetano Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore on Oct. 13 to launch the season, with encores on Nov. 17 and 19.
Quebec director Robert Lepage returns to the Met stages Nov. 10 with a new modern interpretation of The Tempest by Thomas Adès, who is to conduct his own work. Baritone Simon Keenlyside stars as Prospero in this production, set in La Scala opera house in the 18th century. .

- Oct. 27, 2012 – Guiseppi Verdi’s Otello with Johan Botha in the title role and Renée Fleming as Desdemona (Encores: Nov. 24, Dec. 3).
- Dec. 1, 2012 – Wolfgang Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito starring Giuseppe Filianoti and Barbara Frittoli (Encores: Jan. 21, 26, 2013).
- Dec. 8, 2012 – Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera directed by David Alden with Fabio Luisi conducting (Encores: Feb. 9, 11, 2013).
- Dec. 15, 2012 – Verdi’s Aida, starring Liudmyla Monastyrska and Roberto Alagna (Encores: Feb. 23, 25, 2013).
- Jan. 5, 2013 – Hector Berlioz’s Les Troyens starring Deborah Voigt, Susan Graham, Marcello Giordani, and Dwayne Croft (Encore: March 9, 2013).
- Jan. 19, 2013 – Gaetano Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda starring mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato (Encores: March 18, 23, 2013).
- Feb. 16, 2013 – Verdi’s Rigoletto directed by Michael Mayer and set in 1960 Las Vegas (Encores: April 6, 8 and 24, 2013)
- March 2, 2013 – Richard Wagner’s Parsifal starring Jonas Kaufmann (Encore: April 20, 2013).
- March 16, 2013 – Riccardo Zandonai ‘s Francesca da Rimini starring soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek and tenor Marcello Giordani (Encore: May 4, 2013).
- April 27, 2013 – George Handel’s Giulio Cesare starring David Daniels – (Encores: June 1, 3, 2013)
