8 famous paintings stolen in the Laurentians

Eight art pieces by Montreal artist Guido Molinari have been stolen from his former workshop in the Laurentians, north of Montreal.

The abstract artist died in 2004. He is well known for his use of contrasting colours and geometry in paintings.

Guy Molinari, his son, said that the most painful aspect of this theft is losing his father's legacy.

Police believe the thieves may not have been experienced as one of the paintings was cut out of its frame.

"These paintings were in a special place and not many people know about that," said Molinari.

"The way that it was stolen shows that they are people who don't know about art. Art has to be in good shape to be sold," he added.

Last year, two statues estimated at $2-million crafted by Jean-Paul Riopelle were stolen from a private residence in the Laurentians. They were found broken in a wooded area a few days later.
