Canadian singer Deborah Cox and former American Idol contender Constantine Maroulis are teaming up for a revival of the darkly themed musical Jekyll & Hyde, which will stop in Toronto as part of its pre-Broadway tour.

Maroulis will play the dual title role opposite the Grammy-nominated Toronto singer as Lucy, a prostitute who falls in love with the good doctor.

The new production of Jekyll & Hyde — helmed by Tony nominated director, producer and choreographer Jeff Calhoun (Bonnie & Clyde, 9 to 5: The Musical and Newsies) — will hit the road for a 25-week, pre-Broadway tour. It begins in La Mirada, Calif. in September before a whirlwind run through cities such as San Diego, Houston, Tampa, Washington, Detroit, Philadelphia and Los Angeles.

Mirvish Productions will bring the tour to Toronto from Nov. 14-18. The musical is slated to land on Broadway in April 2013.

Former Idol contender Maroulis earned theatre world cred from his Tony-nominated starring role in the stage musical Rock of Ages and for his appearances in productions such as The Wedding Singer, Toxic Avenger, Rent and Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris.

Bestselling R&B artist Cox, known for hit songs like Nobody's Supposed To Be Here, has also branched out into stage performance, including starring in Elton John and Tim Rice's musical Aida and winning the role of famed French performer Josephine Baker in the forthcoming Broadway show Josephine.

Based on the Robert Louis Stevenson tale about a doctor who accidentally unleashes an evil alter-ego when he begins testing on himself, the Jekyll & Hyde musical first debuted in the early 1990s. It opened on Broadway in 1997, running until 2001 before moving onto international tours.
