Emerging artists from across Canada have been named as finalists in the RBC Canadian Painting Competition.

The nominees are all working artists in the first five years of their careers. The 15 finalists were revealed on Wednesday by RBC and the Canadian Art Foundation.

The nominees from Western Canada are:

  • Ahbyah Baker (Vancouver).
  • Thomas Chisholm (Victoria).
  • Jordy Hamilton (Vancouver).
  • Andrea Kastner (Edmonton).
  • Katie Lyle (Vancouver).

The nominees from Central Canada are:

  • Colin Muir Dorward (Ottawa).
  • Aleksander Hardashnakov (Toronto).
  • David Hucal (Guelph, Ont.).
  • Vanessa Maltese (Toronto).
  • Jenna Faye Powell (Sarnia, Ont.).

The nominees from Eastern Canada are:

  • Betino Assa (Montreal).
  • Philip Delisle (Halifax).
  • Nicolas Rancellucci (Montreal).
  • Corri-Lynn Tetz (Montreal).
  • Julie Trudel (Montreal).

One national winner will earn $25,000 and two runners-up will each receive prizes of $15,000. The winning painting also becomes part of the RBC national art collection.

The 2012 winner and honourable mentions will be announced in Toronto on Nov. 29. Paintings by all 15 finalists will be exhibited at the Power Plant contemporary art gallery in Toronto.
