Charlottetown's Confederation Centre of the Arts is cutting five per cent from its $11 million operating budget, but the Centre's CEO says programming won't be affected.

Jessie Inman told CBC News Wednesday one position is being eliminated through attrition, and there will be fewer hours for some staff.

Programming will not be affected, said Inman, adding budget cuts are necessary to ensure the future viability of the Centre.

"Everybody has had to trim, line by line, their expenses," she said.

"These actions align directly with what government is doing, what the private sector and other non-profit organizations have had to do across the country. It is absolutely critical that we do these things so that we can grow in the future."

Inman is not anticipating any change to federal or provincial contributions to the Centre.

In December, Centre officials announced the number of musicians in the orchestra for Anne of Green Gables – The Musical was being cut to 13 from 19 because of a change in the musical score.
