Quebec's Anne Émond wins debut director award

Nuit #1 writer-director Anne Émond has won a special award for first-time directors from Genie organizers. (Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television Arts)Montreal filmmaker Anne Émond has won the Claude Jutra Award for best debut director for her rave-set romance Nuit #1.
The special Genie Award from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is named after late Quebec director Claude Jutra, best known for his classice Mon Oncle Antoine.
Émond, who won critical acclaim for her 2009 short film Naissances, both wrote and directed Nuit #1.
ACCT acting CEO Helga Stephenson called it a “very daring and accomplished debut feature.”
The film stars Catherine De Léan and Dimitri Storoge as a young couple who hook up for a one-night stand, then spend the night talking about their darkest secrets.
Nuit #1 is nominated for two Genie Awards at the March 8 Genies gala – best actress for De Léan and best original screenplay for Émond.
Nuit #1 had its world premiere at TIFF, where it earned a Canada First! special jury mention. It went on to shine at events around the globe, including the Pusan International Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival where it was named best Canadian feature.
