The Arctic Monkeys is leading the race for NME Awards, given annually by British music magazine New Music Express, while Montreal's Arcade Fire is among the nominees for best international band.

The Arctic Monkeys, previous winners who’ve scooped seven nominations this year, are named for best British band and best album.

They go head-to-head with Kasabian, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Horrors and Muse for the best British band award. Their album Suck It And See has three nominations.

Canadian indie band Arcade Fire earned an NME Award for best album for The Suburbs last year, shortly after taking home two Grammys for the same album. In the race for best international band, it is competing against U.S. bands Foo Fighters, The Strokes and Odd Future along with French duo Justice.

Four for Noel Gallagher

Noel Gallagher, Lana Del Rey, Kasabian and Muse are among the multiple nominees.

Gallagher – due to pick up a prestigious Godlike Genius Award – is up for another four awards, including best album for his solo effort Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and best solo artist.

The solo artist category also tapped Adele, Florence + The Machine, Frank Turner, Laura Marling and Miles Kane.

The closely-watched best new band category gives recognition to U.S. indie pop artists Foster The People, U.S. singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, British rockers Tribes and The Vaccines and Manchester pop artists Wu Lyf.

Dubious honours for Bieber

Stratford pop sensation Justin Bieber is in the running for two dubious distinctions – worst album for Under the Mistletoe and villain of the year – a category he shares with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Lady Gaga.

The fan-voted awards are set for Feb. 29 in London.
