Two films by the National Film Board of Canada have earned nominations for the Annie Awards, the annual prizes from the International Animated Film Society.

Dimanche/Sunday by Patrick Doyon and Wild Life by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby are competing against each other for best animated short. They are the same two Canadian animated films that landed on the list of 10 short films in contention for the Oscar, released recently by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Dimanche/Sunday is a magical tale about an idle Sunday, shown from a child’s-eye view. While a family gathers at Grandma’s house, some of the boys sneak off to place a coin on the train tracks.

Wild Life, about a dapper young Englishman trying to cope with life on the Canadian Prairies in 1909, won the title of best Canadian animation from the Canadian Film Institute earlier this year.
