Elton John is in talks for a biopic film about his life. Canadian PressElton John is in talks to make a biopic of his life, with hopes to reteam with his Billy Elliot collaborator Lee Hall.
News of the project — tentatively titled Rocketman after John's hit song — emerged earlier in 2011 and the performer's spokesman confirmed on Friday that discussions were ongoing.
John and playwright Hall teamed up for the hit musical Billy Elliot (based on the film), for which the singer, songwriter and pianist provided the score.
Steve Hamilton Shaw, who produced the 3D animation film Gnomeo & Juliet with John and his partner David Furnish, is also tied to the film project.
"Rocketman will be a radically different kind of biopic," Shaw told Hollywood entertainment site Deadline. He said the film is being envisioned as "non-linear and hyper-visual."
The award-winning John, 64, has sold more than 200 million records worldwide and is known for his lengthy catalog of hits, including Candle in the Wind, Bennie and the Jets, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, I'm Still Standing, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Crocodile Rock and Rocket Man.
The Alberta Ballet's artistic director Jean Grand-Maître created a surreal, fantastical take on John's life and music in his 2010 production Love Lies Bleeding.
