The TV production company for a trivia show that is filmed inside a fake taxi has offered condolences after its vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian late Friday in Vancouver.

Andrew Burnstein, president of Castlewood Productions Inc., said the team with Cash Cab, which airs on the Discovery Channel, sends out thoughts and prayers to the 61-year-old victim and his family.

The man, from Surrey, B.C., was hit just before midnight Friday in the 200 block of E. Cordova Street in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. His name is not being released at the request of his family.

Burnstein said in a statement the incident happened as a producer drove the mock cab back to a storage facility after filming. The driver remained at the scene and has been co-operating with police.

No charges have been laid. Police say the factors that may have contributed to the collision remain under investigation.

Woman injured in hit and run

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old woman is in critical condition after allegedly being struck by a hit and run driver in South Vancouver early Saturday morning.

At about 12:05 a.m. PT, witnesses reported seeing an SUV hit a pedestrian near the intersection of E. 60th Avenue and Main Street. The driver did not stop and left the scene before being identified.

The injured woman lay in the road until medical help arrived. She was rushed to hospital where she remains in critical condition with unknown injuries.

Police are searching for a black 2005 or newer SUV with front end damage.

"The driver made a decision to leave the scene at the time but now the right thing to do is contact police," said VPD spokesperson Const. Lindsey Houghton.

There have been 13 traffic-related fatalities in 2011 in Vancouver, nine of which have been pedestrians.
