Seattle’s Soundgarden is back with its first new collection of songs in 15 years.

The band who made it big at the beginning of the 1990s grunge era reunited in 2010 and singer Chris Cornell says the songwriting juices started flowing.

What they’ve created with the new album King Animal is no nostalgia project but something fresh, Cornell told CBC's Laura Thompson.

Cornell and bassist Ben Shepherd talk about the days when they had a guitar, an amp, $500 and a day job and why music is still fulfilling.
