Veteran Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan says "there's a little more complacency" among young women today when it comes to the issue of equal rights.

During an appearance on CBC's George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, McLachlan spoke about her attempt to revive the Lilith Fair music festival, and her views on the state of feminism today.

"I'm probably going to get myself in trouble here," she said.

"I think that so much groundwork has already been laid, and there's this sense of ease, like 'We're all equal now.' But no, there's still such a ceiling and there's so many opportunities and jobs that aren't open to women — and they're not getting paid as much."
