With An Affair of the Heart, filmmaker Sylvia Caminer takes a look at the rabid devotion of a group of fans to singer Rick Springfield.

At 62, more than 30 years after his 1981 hit Jessie’s Girl, Springfield continues to do more than 90 shows a year.

In an interview with CBC News, he’s quick to attribute the longevity of his career to his fans.  Caminer follows them as they party, tour and go on a cruise with the Aussie-born singer.

After earning a Grammy in 1982 and becoming an international heartthrob, Springfield landed the role of hospital hunk Dr. Noah Drake on the daytime soap opera General Hospital. Springfield starred in the role from 1981 to 1983 and 2005 to 2008. But he also struggled with depression and had to come to terms with a music world that turned its eyes to fresher prospects.

An Affair of the Heart explores the lasting bond that Springfield develops with fans and how his music resonates in their lives.
