Bestselling mystery author and Chicago priest Andrew M. Greeley has been hospitalized after suffering a fall and fracturing his skull last week.
The 80-year-old writer was injured Friday afternoon after exiting a taxi, when his clothing got stuck and the vehicle pulled away, a police spokesperson told the Chicago Tribune newspaper.
Greeley is now in stable but critical condition at a Chicago-area hospital.
The prolific author has published more than 100 works, ranging from non-fiction books to dozens of mystery thrillers to several science fiction titles. He is also a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, who has also contributed writing to many other U.S. media outlets, a scholar and an outspoken social and political critic.
His fiction often incorporates his Irish heritage and Roman Catholicism, with proceeds from his book sales channelled to a host of charitable organizations.
