Singer Céline Dion has given birth early to twin boys at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla., the hospital said Saturday.

Dion gave birth via caesarean section. Both babies were said to be in good health and weighed more than five pounds.

Dion, 42, was admitted last weekend to make sure she was near her doctors leading up to the babies' birth. She wasn't due to deliver until November.

Dion said earlier this year that she became pregnant after undergoing in vitro fertilization for the sixth time.

The singer's husband — manager René Angelil, 68 — expressed his joy at a news conference Saturday evening.

"I did cut the [umbilical] cords, both cords … it's a great feeling," he said. "I hope to provide to them all the love that I can for as long as I can."

Dion's obstetrician, Ronald Ackerman, said the newborns would spend their first few days in an incubator because they were premature.

Dion and Angelil already have a nine-year-old son, René Charles.
