Miranda Lambert performs during the CMA Music Festival June 11in Nashville, Tenn. (Wade Payne/Associated Press)Texan singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert leads nominations for the Country Music Association Awards with nine, the most for a female country artist.
The announcement Wednesday tops a fairy tale year for Lambert, 27. She won three trophies at the Academy of Country Music Awards and then got engaged to fellow country singer Blake Shelton.
She had a chart-topping single this year with The House that Built Me and a No. 1 album with Revolution, her third studio album.
She is nominated for best entertainer, best female artist and best album, and her songs The House That Built Me and White Liar have multiple nominations.
Her nomination haul ties with Merle Haggard, who had nine in 1970, and is surpassed only by Alan Jackson, who had 10 in 2002.
Lambert and Dierks Bentley appeared on Good Morning America on Wednesday to announce many of the top nominations for CMA Awards.
Her fiancé, Shelton, had four nominations, including best male vocalist and best single for Hillbilly Bone.
Lady Antebellum performs during the CMA Music Festival Thursday, June 10 in Nashville, Tenn. (Wade Payne/Associated Press) Her closest competition were her close friends, the band Lady Antebellum, who had five nominations.
Many of country's fresh young faces were represented among the nominees, among them the Zac Brown Band, relative newcomers out of Atlanta who are named for entertainers of the year and Easton Corbin of Florida, who has nods for best new artist and best single for A Little More Country Than That.
The entertainer of the year category includes Lambert, Zac Brown Band, Lady Antebellum and previous winners Brad Paisley and Keith Urban. Paisley has three CMA nominations and Urban two.
Others hailed as newcomers include Luke Bryan of Georgia, Jerrod Niemann of Kansas and Chris Young of Tennessee.
Carrie Underwood, who will co-host the event, is again nominated for female vocalist of the year, an award she has won three times. She also has a nod for album of the year for Play On.
Martina McBride and Reba McEntire, each four-time winners of best female vocalist, are again up for the award, along with Lambert and Taylor Swift. McEntire has been nominated 49 times for CMA Awards in her long career.
The CMA Awards event will be held in Nashville on Nov. 10 and aired live on NBC.
