Time capsules honouring the legacy of singer-songwriter John Lennon are to be filled with his music and album art, as well as fan submissions, this fall. (Associated Press)John Lennon's fans are being asked to contribute to a trio of time capsules to mark what would have been the late Beatle's 70th birthday this fall.
Recordings from Lennon's solo career, newly restored prints of his album artwork and a new essay about his career will be among the items destined for the capsules.
Organizers of The John Lennon Time Capsule Project are also inviting fans and the public to submit ideas of what else should be added to the capsule, as well as artwork, birthday wishes, musical performances, commentary and thoughts about Lennon's continuing legacy.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Box of Vision are overseeing the project.
One of the capsules is to be sealed and stored at the Hall of Fame, in Cleveland, which will host a dedication ceremony on Oct. 8.
It will be reopened on Oct. 9, 2040, the 100th anniversary of Lennon's birth.
The two other capsules will be preserved at as-yet-unnamed international locations associated with Lennon.
"I am delighted to support this effort to help share John's music and messages of peace and love with the children of today and tomorrow," Lennon's widow, performance artist Yoko Ono, said in a statement.
"I know that John's work, life and dreams will help inspire them to bring a better world for everyone."
Ono has regularly participated in events and memorials paying tribute to Lennon, who was shot and killed on Dec. 8, 1980, outside the New York apartment building where the couple lived.

FILM REVIEW: Men in Black 3 by Eli Glasner May. 25, 2012 11:40 AM Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back in the action sequel Men in Black 3, a third instalment of a series now 15 years old. Though new addition Josh Brolin manages some amazing mimicry as a younger version of Jones, the story doesn't measure up to the weird and wonderful charms of the original, says film reviewer Eli Glasner.

Talking about war May. 25, 2012 4:57 PM The public conversation around war has always been complex and thorny. How does Canada's military approach differ from that of other countries? Are we a society of peacekeepers or warriors? These are some of the questions that Noah Richler explores in his new book What We Talk About When We Talk About War.
