The father of the late pop star Michael Jackson has sued the doctor charged with giving the pop star a lethal dose of sedatives.

Joe Jackson filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Dr. Conrad Murray in Los Angeles on Friday, the first anniversary of his son's death.

Murray had been attending to the late entertainer as he prepared for a series of comeback concerts in London, England.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to felony involuntary manslaughter. He has been accused of providing Jackson with the sedatives that killed him, including propofol, which is usually used in hospitals.

Murray's lawyer, Charles Peckham, issued a statement saying he expected the trial to prove Murray's innocence.

The suit is seeking more than $75,000 US from Murray.
