Rapper Kid Cudi has been charged with criminal mischief and criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to New York City police.

Sgt. John Butorn says the performer, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, was arrested Friday.

The arrest came just before the 26-year-old rapper was to perform at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Tennessee early Saturday morning — a gig that he managed to make.

"I really wanted to be here tonight," he said as he took the stage.

Though the NYPD was thin on details, reports by MTV and other New York publications say the hip hop artist got into a fight with a woman early Friday morning, ripping her apartment door from its hinges.

When police arrived to investigate, they discovered drugs on him.

Cudi released his debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of the Day, in 2009, which launched the hit single Day 'n' Nite.He also co-stars on the HBO series How to Make it in America.

The Grammy-nominated rapper has also worked with the likes of Kanye West and Common and is slated to release his second album this year.
