Michael Jackson fans can pay their respects to the late pop icon in the California cemetery where his body is interred on June 25, the first anniversary of his death.

They will not, however, be able to enter the Great Mausoleum, the King of Pop's final resting place in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, although discussions are continuing about just how close fans will be able to get to it.

"Basically, they will be viewing it from a distance," Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz told the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday.

He added that the cemetery is working with the Jackson family on holding a commemoration, but details are not yet available.

"We will be working closely with Forest Lawn to ensure the safety of those who want to pay their respects to Michael Jackson, while ensuring the safety of others who are coming to the cemetery to pay respect to their loved ones," Lorenz said.

Glendale has no plans to issue special permits for the events, meaning streets would not be closed and street vendors would not be allowed to sell memorabilia.

Police will monitor traffic, and any vendors who try to sell their wares will be arrested and their merchandise confiscated, Lorenz told the Glendale News-Press.

In the past, major events have been contained on the massive cemetery that has an expansive network of roads, Lorenz added.

Jackson was rehearsing for a series of comeback concerts in London, England, when he died at age 50 last June 25 after suffering cardiac arrest at this rented Holmby Hills mansion. The Los Angeles County coroner's office later ruled that he died from "acute propofol intoxication," combined with the use of sedatives.

Dr. Conrad Murray, Jackson's physician, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, and has pleaded not guilty. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 14.

If convicted, Murray faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison.

Jackson was interred at a televised ceremony on Sept. 3, 2009, and fans have subsequently been denied access to Forest Lawn.

On June 14, Jackson will be posthumously inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame in New York .
