Nickelback, Drake among 11 Canadian acts up for Grammys

Crooner Michael Bublé is up for best traditional pop album. ((Jeff Christensen/Associated Press)Eleven Canadian artists, from the likes of Drake to Nickelback to Michael Bublé, are vying for prizes at this year's Grammy Awards.
Toronto rapper Drake, real name Aubrey Drake Graham, says he's bringing his mom as his date for Sunday's gala. He's up for two awards — best rap solo performance and best rap song, both for Best I Ever Had.
He's also performing at the show, playing his song, Forever, with Lil Wayne and Eminem.
"It's like the whole situation is amazing to me," said the 23-year-old musician, who was once a regular on the teen TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation.
On the other side of the spectrum is iconic raconteur Leonard Cohen who is getting a lifetime achievement award, while Neil Young was chosen as the MusiCares Person of the Year.
Young was celebrated by a host of singers including Sheryl Crow, Elton John, James Taylor, Wilco and k.d. lang, at an event on Friday night honouring Young's charity work.
Young is also up for best solo rock vocal performance for Fork In The Road and best boxed or special limited edition package for Neil Young Archives Vol 1. (1963 - 1972).
Michael J. Fox gets nom for audio recording
Actor Michael J. Fox also scored a nod in the Best Spoken Word Album category for his audio recording of his book, Always Looking Up.
Some lesser-known Canadian artists are also up for prizes, including Montreal trip-hop duo Beast for best short-form video for Mr. Hurricane.
Other Canadian nominees for Grammy Awards:
- Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album: Michael Bublé Meets Madison Square Garden.
- Best Hard Rock Performance: Burn It To The Ground, Nickelback.
- Best Female R&B Vocal Performance: It Kills Me, Melanie Fiona.
- Best Native American Music Album: True Blue, Northern Cree.
- Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist division: David Foster, along with Jerry Hey, for Seal's A Change is Gonna Come.
The other notable nominees are Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga, who have a combined 23 nominations and will compete in three of the show's most coveted categories: album of the year, record of the year and song of the year
The Black Eyed Peas have six nominations. They will also to perform a medley of their hits Imma Be and I Gotta Feeling, featuring a video collage of fan-generated YouTube clips interwoven with celebrity cameos.
The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards will air at 8 p.m. ET tonight.
