(Dan Steinberg/Associated Press)Reality TV hitmaker Simon Cowell and superstar performers U2 and Jay-Z are among the music world heavyweights who are preparing singles to raise money for victims of the Haitian earthquake.

Cowell, a successful talent show judge and music producer, said Thursday he plans to release a charity single within 10 days after being asked by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to help with the relief effort.

Best known as the acerbic co-host of American Idol, Cowell is set to end his run after this season in order to bring his British TV talent hit The X Factor to the U.S. next year.

Cowell noted that performers could include British singers he has produced, including Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle and X Factor winner Leona Lewis.

"I don't know who's available, but I will get a record out within seven to 10 days," he said.

The goal is to raise as much money as possible in a short period, he added.

Meanwhile, U2 guitarist The Edge told an Irish radio station that the blockbuster band has also completed work on a charity single for Haiti, in a collaboration with hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and producer Swizz Beatz.

Swizz Beatz confirmed the collaboration via a posting on his Twitter account.

Jay-Z, The Edge and U2's Bono are slated to be among the performers appearing, from London, on the Hope For Haiti Now telethon on Friday. It's unknown, however, if the group will perform its new song during the event.
