Paul McCartney, seen performing at Citi Field in New York in July, says he'd fancy a musical residency in London. (Frank Franklin II/Associated Press) Paul McCartney likes the idea of a musical residency in London, similar to ones by Prince and other artists, the Beatles legend said as he prepares to wrap up the European leg of his latest tour.

When asked about possibly engaging in an extended series of concert dates in London, McCartney said he was a fan of the idea.

"I quite fancy that. Last time I ever did that was when the Beatles used to do Christmas shows, and it was brilliant because you would be there for a week or two," the 67-year-old musician told Geoff Lloyd, a host for British indie station Absolute Radio. "It was fantastic."

McCartney added that though he wanted to perform something of a "Union Jack Tour" through Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland, his promoter was unable to secure dates for such a series on short notice.

McCartney, who dazzled audiences in Dublin with a concert Sunday night, is wrapping a series of European dates in support of his new live album, Good Evening New York City. The album features material from his three concerts at New York's Citi Field in July.

After gigs in cities including Hamburg, Berlin, Paris and Cologne, the final concert of the series is set for Tuesday at London's O2 Arena.
