Nelly Furtado, Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy and Toronto rapper k-os are among the artists who will pay tribute to the late Jacksoul lead singer Haydain Neale on Monday.

The Juno Award winner, 39, died Nov. 22 after a seven-month battle with lung cancer.

A group of his friends and supporters will gather at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre to celebrate his life and music, in an event called "Can't Stop Loving You."

CBC Radio will also be recording the tribute for broadcast by Canada Live on CBC Radio 2 on Dec. 17 and the CBC Radio One version of Canada Live on Dec. 18, as well as for streaming online.

The star-studded lineup also includes Chantal Kreviazuk, Justin Nozuka, Divine Brown, Keshia Chante, Ivana Santilli, Tomi Swick Luke McMaster and Wade O'Brown.

Neale's music career was interrupted by a serious motor accident in the summer of 2007, but he was recovering when he discovered he had cancer.

After the diagnosis, Neale and Jacksoul went back into the studio to complete the album SOULmate, which was released on Tuesday.

Neale's album most personal: band mate

In an interview with CBC News, Jacksoul's Ron Lopata remembered Neale as dignified and upbeat, despite the troubles in the last two years of his life.

His new songs on the SOULmate album, including Lonesome Highway and This is Heaven, are almost prescient, though they were written before his accident, Lopata said.

"People are saying even after all that happened, it's still so positive. How is that possible? It's because of the guy behind those songs," Lopata said.

"He rarely spoke of his condition, the lung cancer. I don't remember him complaining."

He said SOULmate is Neale's most personal album. "These were songs that meant a lot to him. That was Haydain," he said.

Hamilton, Ont.-born Neale won the SOCAN Award for R&B song of the year, a Canadian Urban Music Award for songwriter of the year and two Juno Awards for best R&B or soul recording.

Neale is survived by his wife, Michaela, and daughter, Yasmin.

All proceeds from the concert and sales of the new record will go to the Haydain Neale Family Trust.
