(Tafelmusik)Amid tough economic times for many arts organizations, Toronto's Tafelmusik Baroque orchestra and chamber choir ended its 30th anniversary year with its ninth consecutive operating surplus.

The company had a total operating revenue of $4.64 million for the 2008-2009 season and were left with an operating surplus of $43,163, officials revealed in a statement on Monday.

The company's endowment fund has also hit $1.55 million.

"Rather than reducing activities in tougher times, we've expanded our presence in our home city, on the world stage, and through …social media, offering distinct and remarkable programs," said managing director Tricia Baldwin.

"This is an exciting, visionary time at Tafelmusik."

Along with a full slate 50 concerts in Toronto, the 2008-2009 anniversary season also saw the troupe embark on seven tours, including a sold-out debut at Carnegie Hall.

Another highlight was The Galileo Project, Taffelmusik's co-production with The Banff Centre. The concert toured Ontario and Mexico this year and is slated to travel to the U.S., Asia and Australia.

Created to celebrate 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy, the musical work also landed Tafelmusik a namesake asteroid from the International Astronomical Union, which recognizes celestial bodies.

Tafelmusik's 2009-2010 season runs September through June 1, 2010.
