Multiple Grammy-winning Puerto Rican duo Calle 13 has lost another gig following recent political comments made by the lead singer on the MTV Latino Awards.

Juan Manuel Llano, mayor of the the Colombian provincial capital of Manizales, said Monday he is cancelling the reggaeton duo's concert slated for January.

Llano said the reason was that Calle 13 vocalist René Perez, who performs under the moniker Residente, insulted Colombian President Alvaro Uribe at the MTV awards show last week.

The cancellation comes just days after San Juan Mayor Jorge Santini nixed the duo's upcoming Halloween concert, also because of Perez's comments about politicians at the show.

MTV outbursts

At the MTV event in Universal City, Calif., on Thursday, Perez denounced the layoff of 17,000 Puerto Rican state workers and used an epithet directed at the island's Gov. Luis Fortuno that also besmirched the politician's mother.

Also during the program, Perez wore a T-shirt critical of Uribe. The shirt could be read as a denunciation of the president's decision to allow U.S. bases in Colombia or an insinuation about Uribe's rumoured ties to far-right paramilitary groups.

Calle 13, consisting of vocalist Perez and producer Eduardo Cabra (also known as Visitante), has not yet responded to the cancellations.
