(Evan Agostini/Associated Press)Lady Gaga announced Friday that though her Fame Kills tour with Kanye West has been axed, she still plans to hit the road this fall.

The pop singer, speaking just before accepting the rising star honour at Billboard's annual Women in Music event in New York on Friday, said she will embark on a solo tour starting in mid-November.

Concert promoter Live Nation revealed the Fame Kills cancellation in a brief statement Thursday. The joint tour had been slated to begin Nov. 10 in Phoenix and run through January.

Dates for the much-anticipated concerts matching the notoriously outspoken rapper West with the outrageously clad pop singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, had just recently been announced.

Refunds will be offered to those who had purchased tickets, Live Nation said. However, no explanation for the cancellation was given.

On Friday, Lady Gaga said that she and West "mutually decided to cancel the tour."

West is "going to take some time off, but I'm not," she added.

Negative sentiment

West has been overcome by a massive wave of disapproval after his most recent awards-show outburst in September.

Taylor Swift became the first country artist to win a trophy at the MTV Video Music Awards (taking best female video for You Belong With Me) on Sept. 13. Shortly after the teen pop-country sensation began her acceptance speech, West boldly strode onstage, grabbed the microphone and announced his objection, praising the Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) video from fellow category nominee Beyoncé as one of "the best videos of all time."

Facing boos from the star-studded audience, West and his party were escorted out of the awards ceremony. The rapper has since expressed remorse publicly several times (including via his Twitter account and on The Jay Leno Show), as well as apologized to Swift privately, she revealed.

However, the torrent of negative sentiment towards him has extended all the way to U.S. President Barack Obama, who called the rapper a "jackass" amid off-the-record remarks that were nonetheless leaked and reported widely.

Last week, Lady Gaga defended West in interviews.
