Pop singers Rihanna and Chris Brown attended the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles in June 2008. (Matt Sayles/Associated Press)Grammy Award-winning singer Rihanna has cancelled a Friday night concert, following a weekend incident involving her boyfriend, performer Chris Brown.
Malaysian event promoter Pineapple Concerts announced Tuesday that Rihanna's Feb. 13 show in Kuala Lumpur will be postponed "in light of recent events involving Rihanna."
The concert will be rescheduled for an unspecified date, the promoter said.
The 20-year-old Barbadian singer had been slated to stop in Malaysia and Indonesia as part of her ongoing Good Girl Gone Bad tour.
Brown, a singer, dancer and budding actor, has also withdrawn from a host of appearances for events surrounding the NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix this coming weekend, according to a spokesman for the basketball league.
Gum company Wrigley also announced it has suspended all marketing campaigns tied to Brown "until the matter is resolved."
The 19-year-old Brown turned himself in to authorities on Sunday night and was subsequently released on $50,000 US bail after being charged with making a criminal threat against an unidentified woman, according to Los Angeles police.
The U.S. entertainer could face further charges from the district attorney's office pending review of the case. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 5.
The two young singers were seen Saturday evening attending a pre-Grammy party. Citing unnamed sources, the Los Angeles Times and other U.S. media have named Rihanna as the unidentified woman involved in the scuffle with Brown.
The pair were to perform at Sunday's Grammy Awards, but separately cancelled their appearances shortly before the ceremony.
