Canadian songstress Sarah McLachlan is splitting from her husband of 11 years.

In an interview with Billboard.com about her upcoming album, she revealed she is separating from Ashwin Sood, also the drummer in her band, and that she documents their trials in songs on the new release.

"I wasn't planning on saying anything," the Vancouver-based McLachlan said, "but it's gonna come out at some point. I haven't said anything about it because I've been terrified to, but I figure … there's no good time to say it, so I just said it."

Her 14-song greatest hits disc, Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan, features two new tracks, U Want Me 2 and Don't Give Up on Us.

McLachlan and Sood have two daughters, six-year-old India Ann Sushil and Taja Summer, 14 months.

McLachlan's album comes out Oct. 7.
