A former manager of punk pioneers the Ramones has been found beaten to death inside her New York apartment.

Linda Stein, who managed the iconic band in its heyday, was discovered in her Fifth Avenue apartment Tuesday night. Stein, 62, lived alone.

The New York medical examiner's office announced on Wednesday that she died from blows to the head and neck. Police are investigating.

Stein shared management of the Ramones with Danny Fields during its heyday and she is often credited with organizing the band's landmark trip to England.

Many credit the group's July 4, 1976, show at the Roundhouse in London with energizing the punk movement in the U.K.

Stein, who was also married to former Sire Records president Seymour Stein, later began a successful career as a real estate agent to the stars, helping celebrities such as Sting and Billy Joel broker deals for Manhattan pads.
