Opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, who is battling pancreatic cancer, has been released from an Italian hospital two weeks after he was admitted with a high fever.

"All diagnostic tests having been completed," the hospital in Modena said in a statement released on Saturday.

The 71-year-old tenor was released early Saturday morning and is said to be at home, continuing his recovery.

When Pavarotti was admitted on Aug. 8, his wife, Nicoletta Mantovani, said her husband was in good spirits and that she expected him to be released within days.

The clinic revealed on Aug. 20 that the tenor was still in the hospital because doctors wanted to do a complete round of tests even though the fever had gone.

The opera star was in the midst of his farewell tour last year when he discovered he had the cancer. He underwent surgery in New York City in July 2006 to remove a tumour and has not performed since then.

After the operation, his manager said the tumour had been "completely removed."

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly forms of the disease.

Prior to Aug. 8, his manager had said the singer had been "feeling stronger" and was recording an album of classical religious music as well as teaching students.
