Jim Reed, former CBC anchor, dies

Former CBC journalist and broadcaster Jim Reed has died of lung cancer, his family said Saturday.

Reed, 75, worked for CBC News for 12 years, after 18 years as a correspondent and anchor with CTV current affairs program W5.

A three-time Gemini award winner, Reed also worked for TVO in Ontario.

His career also included stints as a writer, producer and director.

He travelled widely and freelanced for The Associated Press, the New York Times, the Globe and Mail and other news organizations.

Until early this month, Reed continued to comment on world issues including the Middle East.

On his blog he wrote that he had been diagnosed last fall with non-small-cell carcinoma, a form of lung cancer.
