CBCNews.ca picked up a trio of honours at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards in Toronto Wednesday evening, joining the Toronto Star and marketing blog Sparksheet.com among the night's multiple award winners.
The prize, administered by journalism trade publication Masthead, honours excellence in online editorial and innovation by Canadians.
CBCNews.ca earned kudos in three categories: best overall online-only website, best community feature (for its G20 Street Level blog) and best blog (for Inside Politics).
The awards include 11 categories, with three divisions (red, blue and green) to recognize different types of online publications.
All three of CBCNews.ca's wins were in COPA's newly introduced "green" division for the websites of broadcasters and daily and weekly newspapers.
The Star's wins (for overall companion website, cross-platform initiative and video) also came in the green division.
Meanwhile, Sparksheet.com nabbed four awards in the blue division: overall online-only website, mobile application, online-only article or series and e-newsletter.
Other multiple winners unveiled at Wednesday night's gala included newsweekly Macleans, French-language news website Cyberpresse.ca and city blog Torontoist.com.
Overall, organizers announced 32 winners, each of whom will receive a certificate and editorial recognition by Masthead.

FILM REVIEW: Men in Black 3 by Eli Glasner May. 25, 2012 11:40 AM Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back in the action sequel Men in Black 3, a third instalment of a series now 15 years old. Though new addition Josh Brolin manages some amazing mimicry as a younger version of Jones, the story doesn't measure up to the weird and wonderful charms of the original, says film reviewer Eli Glasner.
