CBC Radio reaps 17 honours at international awards

The Current, hosted by Anna Maria Tremonti, captured the coveted Grand Award gold medal for its documentary, "Twice Lost." (CBC)CBC Radio collected 17 medals at the 2010 New York Festivals International Radio Awards and once again was named Broadcaster of the Year at the prestigious, annual awards.
This marks the fourth time in five years CBC Radio has garnered Broadcaster of the Year.
"This is truly fantastic," Denise Donlon, general manager of CBC Radio, said in a statement Saturday. "My heartiest congratulations to everyone involved in creating such outstanding radio.
"The breadth of programming held up for distinction by these awards is truly remarkable and a wonderful testament to the depth of programming choices that CBC provides to our audiences. We are deeply honoured."
One of the highest accolades of the gala in New York City was the Grand Award gold medal, which went to The Current for its documentary, "Twice Lost," about a brother and sister's contentious relationship.
"These award wins just further send the message that CBC produces some of the finest programming in the world," said Kirstine Stewart, the interim executive vice-president of CBC.

- Silver, human relations: CBC Ottawa, "Debts of Gratitude."
- Silver, music program: Music, "In Tune."
- Bronze, educational: CBC Radio News, "Polar Prom."
- Bronze, history: Ideas, "The Evolution of Charles Darwin."
- Bronze, history: Ideas, "Shadow on Sparks Street."
