British singer-songwriter Ozzy Osbourne will be writing a health advice column for the Sunday Times magazine, associated with London's Times newspaper.

The legendary hard-living rocker's weekly column will be titled The Wisdom of Oz, and he'll sign it as "Dr. Ozzy."

Osbourne, who has had bouts with alcohol and drug abuse throughout his career with Black Sabbath and as a reality TV star, said he wants people to learn from his mistakes.

"I've seen literally thousands of doctors over my lifetime, and spent well over £1 million ($1.5 million Cdn) on them, to the point where I sometimes think I know more about being a doctor than doctors do," he said in an announcement of his appointment.

He also said that he's been "Dr. Ozzy" to his friends for years, but mainly because he used to be a walking pharmacy.

Osbourne said he thought it was a joke when the newspaper approached him to write a health advice column, but later realized the Sunday Times was serious.

Osbourne said he will promote a lifestyle that includes exercising, eating well and taking medication only when prescribed.

His other advice is to enjoy life, noting "at the end of the day, we're all going to die. So what's the point of always worrying about your health?"

His column, which will answer readers' health questions, gets underway later this summer.
