Andrew Phillips, editor-in-chief of the Montreal Gazette, is leaving the newspaper.

Staff was informed Thursday that Phillips will be stepping down May 8.

Phillips has held several positions at the newspaper over 35 years, most recently overseeing the newsroom's expansion on the internet.
