Washington Post reporter Kari Lydersen's blog about a six-day Chicago factory occupation that was resolved on Wednesday will be turned into a book.

New York-based Melville House will publish the book, tentatively titled Revolt on Goose Island in paperback in January.

Melville House spokeswoman Clara Heyworth told Publishers Weekly that the publishing house is planning a 10,000-copy print run.

The crash publication is being launched as a series of blogs on the house's website. "By posting Kari's dispatches as a kind of first draft, we can keep the story in the news while benefiting from a lively and interactive online readership," publisher Dennis Johnson said in a statement Friday.

Laidoff workers

Lydersen, a Chicago-based Washington Post reporter, covered the dispute in which about 200 laidoff workers of Republic Windows & Door spent six days inside the company's shuttered factory on Chicago's Goose Island.

The workers had been given just three days' notice that the company was closing instead of the 60 days stipulated under federal law.

They vowed to remain until they had assurances that they would receive severance and accrued vacation pay.

Their fight became a symbol of the mounting anger across the U.S. over widespread layoffs and corporate bailouts.

On Wednesday, the occupation ended with a $1.76-million US settlement.
