Financial troubles are growing for Ed McMahon, with Citibank now suing the former Tonight Show announcer to recoup a loan of nearly $200,000 US.

According to court documents, Citibank filed a lawsuit against McMahon in Los Angeles Supreme Court on June 9. The suit seeks about $180,000 US in damages, plus legal fees, on a debt incurred in the past four years.

A spokesman for McMahon, who has most recently worked as a celebrity pitchman, declined comment.

Earlier this month, McMahon and his wife, Pamela, appeared on CNN's Larry King Live and discussed their financial woes. The McMahons are fighting foreclosure on their multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills home and have fallen $644,000 US behind on their mortgage payments since February.

The couple has been trying to sell the home for two years, but have been stymied by the poor U.S. economy as well as the fact that their more than $6 million US house is located near that of paparazzi-plagued pop star Britney Spears.

The 85-year-old former Star Search host and sidekick to Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show also revealed he has been unable to work since he broke his neck 18 months ago.

"If you spend more money than you make, you know what happens," he told King.
