A Canadian model has scored a distinguished pop culture honour: being named Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Year.

Jayde Nicole, a 22-year-old from the southern Ontario town of Port Perry, will be featured in the forthcoming North American issue of the iconic men's lifestyle mag.

Along with her new title (and 10-page feature in the June issue), Nicole will receive $100,000 US and a new car.

A young entrepreneur, Nicole is head of a namesake modelling agency that she founded in 2005. She caught the eye of Playboy scouts a few years ago, and they featured her in the magazine's January 2007 issue.

She is currently working on a reality-TV pilot as well as penning a fitness and beauty book.

Though Ladysmith, B.C.-born actress Pamela Anderson may be the Canadian most associated with the famed men's magazine, after appearing on about a dozen covers, Nicole is the first Canadian Playmate of the Year since 1982, when St. John's-born Shannon Tweed scored the title.
