His new program, The Strombo Show, will begin Sunday, Nov. 4, and be heard on Corus stations in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, London and Hamilton.

It's a three-hour national talk radio format, but it will also feature his choice of music and celebrity interviews.

"I really love radio. My roots are really in radio," said Stroumboulopoulos, who began his career as a music journalist and once hosted Punkorama and Live In Toronto on the Edge radio station in Toronto.

"I really wanted to play music," he told CBC News.

He plans to put together a Top Five list of favourite songs every week, as well as interact with listeners by e-mail, text or on the phone.

The University of Calgary has announced it will be giving Stroumboulopoulos an honorary degree next month for people who have made "extraordinary achievements and done a great service to the community."

Stroumboulopoulos has travelled to the Arctic, Sudan and Zambia to highlight various causes.

The CBC host told Canadian Press he is "totally stoked" to receive the honour, joking that he's glad to finally get a degree and not have to pay off a student loan.
