Organizers of Canada's Walk of Fame — the annual celebration of Canadian celebrities — have named comedian Eugene Levy as the host of this year's edition.

Levy, who was inducted into the institution in 2006, will host the 10th annual gala on June 9 in Toronto.

The veteran comic actor, who was born in Hamilton, Ont., and lives with his family in Toronto, started out with The Second City comedy troupe. Levy rose to fame in the Canadian sketch television series SCTV.

He has since carved out a successful career on the silver screen, from appearing in the American Pie films to his continuing collaborations with filmmaker Christopher Guest for projects like Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration.

Established in 1998, Canada's Walk of Fame has honoured more than 100 Canadian personalities with paving stones etched with a star, the name of the artist, and his or her signature.

The galaxy of past inductees includes singers Paul Anka, Celine Dion and Joni Mitchell; actors Mike Myers, Shirley Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland; dancers Rex Harrington and Karen Kain; filmmaker Norman Jewison; pianist Glenn Gould and sports stars Maurice Richard, George Chuvalo and the Crazy Canucks ski team.

Though currently embedded into the sidewalks next to downtown Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall, the walk is scheduled for a slight move.

In September, organizers announced a plan to shift the plaques to a newly designed, more prominent display at Metro Square, a small park located next to the concert venue and across from the Royal Alex and Princess of Wales theatres.

The new display is scheduled to begin construction this fall.

Organizers will announce this year's eight new inductees to Canada's Walk of Fame on March 6.
