Actor Lindsay Lohan spent 84 minutes in a Los Angeles jail Thursday after pleading guilty earlier this year to drunk driving and cocaine possession.

Lohan, 21, was sentenced in August to one day of jail time after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department website showed Lohan checked in at 10:30 a.m. local time Thursday and was released at 11:54 a.m.

Lohan was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving twice in the past year: in July following a car chase and in May, when she crashed her car in Beverly Hills.

Lohan faced charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding .08 per cent and being under the influence of cocaine.

Under the terms of the plea deal, Lohan was also sentenced to 10 days of community service and placed on 36 months probation, meaning she could face an extended jail term if she has a relapse. She started to fulfill her community service earlier this week

Lohan spent six weeks in Promises Malibu Alcohol and Drug Rehab Treatment Facility after wrecking her car in May.

She completed a treatment program July 13 and said she would voluntarily wear an alcohol-detecting ankle bracelet as part of an intensive outpatient program.

The star of Mean Girls and Freaky Friday is the latest young Hollywood celebrity to serve time behind bars.

In August, actor Nicole Richie spent 80 minutes in jail for what was a four-day sentence for driving under the influence of drugs.

In July, Richie's Simple Life co-star, socialite Paris Hilton spent three days in jail for a 45-day sentence.She was returned to jail for three weeks after public outcry over supposed preferential treatment.
