Of A Monstrous Child: A Gaga Musical, staged by Toronto's Buddies in Bad Times Theatre and Ecce Homo Theatre, explores the myth and mystique surrounding pop star Lady Gaga.

The irreverent musical cabaret stars Kimberly Persona as the enigmatic singer — a consummate entertainer who masks her real personality behind a changing series of looks.

However, fans get what they need from Gaga, whether she’s real or not, writer-director Alistair Newton tells Radio-Canada’s Kevin Sweet.

Calling Of A Monstrous Child a mix of high- and low-brow art, Newton says it’s not meant to be a musical about Gaga so much as an exploration of fandom and the devotees the singer calls her "little monsters."
