The anchor of Global TV's national evening newscast is resigning.
Kevin Newman sent an email to staff saying his last night at the helm of Global National will be Aug. 20. Newman has been the show's anchor since it debuted in September 2001.
Newman decided to leave because he felt the newscast needed a change, not because he was offered a post at another network, Canwest broadcasting president Peter Viner said Friday on the company's website.
In his resignation email, obtained by The Canadian Press, Newman says he will spend some time on "rest and creative renewal" when he leaves Global National.
