Canadian acts Arcade Fire, Drake, Nelly Furtado, Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen have scored nominations for this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards.
Stratford, Ont. singer Bieber is in the running for four awards, including best male artist and biggest fan draw.
He follows two of the world’s biggest acts: Rihanna, with six nominations, and Taylor Swift, with five. Swift and Rihanna are competing head-to-head in several categories, including best pop act, best female act as well as best look.
Mission, B.C. pop singer Jepsen has nominations for both best new artist and best song for her hit Call Me Maybe, which Billboard has dubbed the top song of the summer.
Montreal's Arcade Fire is up for an award in the world stage category, which ranks international acts for their stage presence. Bieber and B.C.-born Furtado are vying for the same award.
Toronto rapper Drake has scored a nomination for best in hip hop. Last year, his single Take Care won an MTV Video Music Award for best hip hop video.
The winners of the MTV Europe Awards will be named Nov. 1 in Frankfurt.
